Previous EUFAR Projects

EUFAR FP7 (2008 - 2013)

The previous EUFAR contract, EUFAR FP7 (2008 - 2013), was an Integrating Activity of the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission, which brought together 32 European institutions and companies involved in airborne research, providing access to 21 instrumented aircraft and  6 hyperspectral instruments.

Networking activities

  • N1 Scientific Advisory Committee, constituted of eminent scientists, provides the EUFAR Consortium with independent strategic recommendations on EUFAR objectives and long-term developments
  • N2 Transnational Activity is the unified management structure to implement EUFAR Transnational Access to the aircraft and instruments.
  • N3 Future of the Fleet evaluates the performance of the existing fleet, identifies gaps and provides solutions for the long-term development of the fleet.
  • N4 Expert Working Groups are supported to improve the scientific expertise in the field of airborne research, to facilitate the transfer of expert knowledge to users, operators, and funding agencies, and to compile the knowledge in a high-level handbook on “Airborne Physical Measurements – Methods and Instruments".
  • N5 Education and Training activities aim at attractting new early-stage researchers to airborne research, educating and training new early-stage researchers and academic lecturers in airborne atmospheric research and airborne hyperspectral remote sensing.
  • N6 Standard and Protocols develop common protocols in airborne research, to support users and operators with recommendations on best practice and state-of-the-art software for airborne data pre-processing, to develop and publish open source software toolboxes for higher level data products, and data analysis.
  • N7 Database will provide a centralised gateway to in situ and remote sensed airborne data collected by the European facility.
  • N8 E-Communication elaborates efficient solutions on Internet for the dissemination of the EUFAR information, for facilitating the electronic submission of transnational access proposals, and their evaluation by the EUFAR User Group Selection Panel.
  • N9 Sustainable Structure develops a framework for a sustainable EUFAR structure and international cooperation.
